The town of Callahan was named for Daniel Callahan, who helped build a railroad in 1854. Some of the major industries are timber and agriculture. With about 3,000 residents, Callahan is one of the few places around where you can still find working family farms and large tracts of land. There is a large amount of state and federally protected wetlands, as well as commercial pine forests. It is located in western Nassau county, near the intersection of US1 and 301/A1A. Callahan is a family-oriented community, with 4 public schools and a private school. There is a strong sense of pride in the community, which is evident if you stop by any local restaurant or store. Come by and visit Callahan and see why it is currently one of the fastest growing counties in Florida. |
